How Do I Choose A Windows Installer?

When it comes to replacing your windows and doors, you have plenty of options to choose from. These include materials, designs, functionality, colours, structure, energy efficiencies, technologies, and more. Depending on the combination of options chosen, the price and quality can fluctuate drastically. The same can be said for the individual or the team installing your windows. The cost and quality of installation will vary from one contractor to another.

How to pick windows and doors company?

Ask For Referrals

Begin your search by asking your friends and family if they have windows and doors contractors that they have used before and are happy with. If someone from your inner circle refers to a company they have worked with before and are willing to vouch for the quality and price, it may be worth contacting that company. This also gives you an opportunity to inspect the work first hand, as you can visit the referrer’s home to see the work for yourself.

Get At Least Three Quotes

Dealing with just one company is definitely faster, but having at least three contractors come out and inspect the work needed to be done and quote on the job will provide you with valuable insights on price ranges, the actual work that needs to get done, and timelines.

Look Into Their Reputation

For most residential renovation companies, you can find what past customers feel about the product and the quality of work by looking at online reviews. A simple Google search will provide you with access to their Google reviews, as well as provide links to other review sites, including those that focus on home improvement companies. When looking at reviews, try not to focus on just their overall rating. Look at how many reviews they have, when were the reviews left, and what are the comments from the reviews. This will help you get a better understanding of what to expect if you decide to work with them.

Their Experience

Looking into how long a business has been around can help you decide if they are trustworthy or not. Not to say a company that is just starting out, can’t provide great work. But, if a contractor has been around for many years, chances are they will still be around once the job is completed for any issues or warranty work. If the company is newer, ask about the experience of the crew. They may have been in the business for 20+ years, and just decided to head out on their own.

Workmanship Warranties

Having a strong warranty on your windows and doors themselves is great, but the manufacturer will not warranty the installation. This falls on the contractor, and considering issues happen with even the most tenured and trained renovations teams, it is important to have the installation itself warrantied.

When it comes to your new windows and doors, you should do your due diligence on both the product and the contractor. After all, you can purchase the highest end product made out of the best materials, with the highest energy efficiency rating, and still end up unsatisfied if the installation is not completed properly.
